‘The reference to case law came about in the following way. Ms Matthews produced a skeleton argument ahead of the hearing, which at first blush presents a reasonable understanding of the law of adverse possession. However, on closer inspection, it does betray some errors. Counsel for the First Respondent suggested it had been generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and took objection to this. For her part, Ms Matthews explained that she had no legal background and readily accepted that she had used AI in carrying out her research.’
